Organic & Herbal Tea Guide: Green, Rosemary, Thyme, Olive Leaf — Plus an Easy Turmeric Tea

Organic and herbal teas are a simple way to enjoy a warm cup without the sugar of everyday chai. Whether you are looking for green tea after meals, a caffeine-free herbal tea before bed, or a comforting turmeric tea in winter, this guide explains how each tastes, how to brew it properly, and how to make turmeric tea at home.
Green tea
Green tea comes from the same plant as black tea, but the leaves are not fermented, so they keep a fresh, grassy flavour and natural antioxidants. It contains a little caffeine — less than black tea.
- How to brew: let boiled water rest for a minute, then steep for 2–3 minutes. Boiling water and long steeping make green tea bitter.
- Try it with: mint, lemon, a little honey, or cardamom and cinnamon as kahwa.
PARC Green Tea comes as 30 teabags or a 150 g loose-leaf jar.
Caffeine-free herbal teas
Herbal teas (often called tisanes) are made from herbs, leaves or flowers rather than the tea plant, so they are naturally caffeine-free — a good choice for evenings.
- Rosemary tea: aromatic and refreshing, a calming cup any time of day. See rosemary tea.
- Thyme tea: fragrant and traditional, a favourite in the cold season. See thyme tea.
- Oregano tea: savoury and warming, lovely with honey and lemon.
- Olive leaf tea: smooth and earthy, rich in natural antioxidants. See olive leaf tea.
How to brew herbal tea: pour freshly boiled water over one teabag and steep for 4–5 minutes with the cup covered, so the aromatic oils stay in the tea. Herbal teas do not turn bitter like green tea, so a longer steep simply makes a stronger cup.
Easy turmeric tea (haldi chai) at home
Turmeric tea is a warm drink made from haldi, a spice found in every Pakistani kitchen. We do not sell turmeric tea, but it is easy to make at home.
Turmeric tea with water (1 cup):
- Bring 1 cup of water to the boil.
- Add ¼ to ½ teaspoon of ground turmeric (or a few slices of fresh turmeric root) and a small pinch of black pepper.
- Optional: add a slice of fresh ginger or a small piece of cinnamon.
- Simmer gently for 5 minutes, then strain.
- Let it cool slightly and stir in a teaspoon of pure honey and a squeeze of lemon.
Turmeric milk (haldi doodh): warm a cup of milk with ¼ teaspoon of turmeric and a pinch of black pepper, simmer for 2–3 minutes, then sweeten with honey once it is off the heat.
Black pepper is traditionally added with turmeric, and a little fat (such as milk) is often included. If you take blood-thinning or other regular medication, ask your doctor before drinking turmeric regularly.
Tips for a better cup
- Add honey only after the tea has cooled slightly — boiling heat dulls its aroma.
- Store teas in airtight containers away from light, moisture and strong smells like spices.
- Use fresh, clean water; water left standing for long tastes flat.
- One to two cups of herbal tea a day suits most adults. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or on medication, check with your doctor first.
Frequently asked questions
Which tea has no caffeine?
Herbal teas such as rosemary, thyme, oregano and olive leaf are caffeine-free. Green and black tea contain caffeine.
Is organic tea different from herbal tea?
"Organic" describes how a tea is grown; "herbal" describes what it is made from. Many people searching for organic tea want a natural tea with nothing artificial added — which describes our herbal teas.
Can I drink green tea with milk?
You can, but green tea is usually enjoyed plain or with lemon and honey to keep its fresh taste.
